The Irri-Tape, a registered trademark of Bird-X Company, is a unique and ingenious way of keeping birds from eating your plants, or repelling them from your home or any other area you wish to be free of bird droppings. It is environmentally friendly as it neither harms the birds nor employs harsh chemicals. It does not even require electric power to work.
The concept behind the Irri-Tape comes from an age-old practice –the scarecrow. Scarecrows have been around at least since the first century CE. They have, however, evolved from their human forms into tapes and ribbons made of boPET polyester films.
The irridescent film of the Irri-Tape uses holography, wind, and light to disorient the birds. Flashes of light appear to the birds as light from the sun or any other source is reflected on the tape. With constant movement from the wind, these flashes appear in several places. The changing colors of the reflections further help confuse the birds.
In addition to this visual deterrent, the tape also emits a rattling metallic noise when rustled by the breeze. This noise, coupled with the flashes of light, scares the birds away.
Although it evolved from the scarecrow, the Irri-Tape scares more than crows. It is also effective against pigeons, blackbirds, sparrows, seagulls, woodpeckers, swallows, ducks, and geese.
The tape is available in rolls of 25, 100, and 500 feet. Mounting brackets are also available, although you can always hang it on any existing pole in your home or garden. You can also spiral it on free standing trees, but be sure to keep it loose enough to flutter in the wind. And of course, it should not be kept in shaded areas.
